The Taffetas focuses on four singing sisters from Muncie, Indiana, who are making their national television debut on the weekly show “Spotlight on Music.” Using the format of a television show, Lewis pays tribute to sounds of The McGuire Sisters, The Fontane Sisters, and The Chordettes while featuring such hits as “Johnny Angel,” “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “Where The Boys Are,” “Little Darlin,” and “You Don’t Own Me.” The Taffetas transports audiences to an era of watching Sunday night television on a twelve-inch black and white screen.

The Taffetas, which preceded Forever Plaid by two years, launched the craze for nostalgia when it opened Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 1989. It has since gone on to be performed around the world and has been joined by other Rick Lewis creations which take us down memory lane, including The Cardigans , A Cardigan Christmas , and A Taffeta Christmas .

Charlotte Guyette, a USD Theatre professor who directed the USD Playhouse’s production of Forever Plaid two years ago, directs The Taffetas , while Bruce Earnest, artistic director of the Playhouse, serves as music director. Students in the musical theatre program, Jesse Atkinson, Anna Auchampach and Elizabeth Wright, are joined by guest artist Darla Earnest as the singing sisters--The Taffetas. Choreography is by Johnnie Stapleton.
